ASIA2014 Came to a Perfect End

Arthroplasty Society in Asia (ASIA) consists of top experts in joint from Asia and the rest of world with the aims of sharing up-to-date knowledge and experiences, enhancing surgical expertise, and educating young surgeons in Asia. The 2nd Annual Meeting of Arthroplasty Society in Asia in collaboration with AORecon (ASIA2014) finished ended successfully in Seoul, Korea on 8th November, 2014


Focusing on regional orthopedic issues, ASIA2014 is planned to provide precious opportunities for scientific communication and interpersonal networking for the participating surgeons.

The meeting attracted participants from more than 20 countries. In addition to experts from Asian countries and regions such as China, Korea, India, Japan, Pakistan, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan, there are also experts from Europe and America taking the stage in ASIA2014. More than 80 representatives from China had attended this meeting.

In the morning of November 6th, the opening remarks from Myung Chul Yoo, President of ASIA and Chairman of ASIA2014raised the curtain of this year’s ASIA annual meeting.

Dozens of academic reports, AORecon Symposiums and ASIA Symposiums were held in succession, which presented cutting-edge technologies and academic developments, making the conference a true event of think tank of Asia arthroplasty community.

In particular, ASIA was in collaboration with AOReconstruction (AORecon) for ASIA2014. Focusing on “Current Technological Difficulties of Periprosthetic Fracture Treatment”, many of world leading experts from AORecon explained latest innovations, debates and academic trends in this field.

Gala Dinner on November 7 pushed the meeting to the climax. On the Gala Dinner, Yan Wang, Founding Chairman of ASIA, led the audience to have a good review of the history of ASIA, and pained a grand blue print for the days ahead, with a sincere hope that the academic contribution of ASIA and its annual conferences to the arthroplasty community can be well maintained and growing continuously.


In the Gala dinner, the winner of ASIA Fellowship Awards and ASIA Poster Awards are announced. Those awards are set to honor their outstanding scientific performances and achievements. Three excellent scholars from Chinese Taipei, China and Korea won the 2014 ASIA Fellowship Awards; and ASIA Poster Awards were given to three Korean scholars and one Indian scholar.

Fellowship Winners:

  • 1st Prize: Szu-Yuan Chen, Taipei Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Chinese Taipei
  • 2nd Prize: Shi Jingsheng, Huashan Affiliated Hospital of Fudan University Shanghai Medical College, China
  • 2nd Prize (Tie): Sang-Min Kim, Changwon Hospital of Sungkyunkwan University, Korea.

The numbers of abstract submissions, participating countries and participating surgeons have all reached a new high, and the meeting is strongly supported by top manufacturers in this industry. All the above proved that ASIA is making steady progress in the aspects of international cooperation, association development and academic research.
